i forgot to mention the concert db and i went to last night.
the band, slint, plays the blues backwards. im not certain how they learned do it... if they picked a real song and then wrote it out backwards and then played it, or if they just knew, like god knows.
anyhow, it was good music.
omg... i was watching the crowd below from the balcony and nearly died from laughing...
first, i saw one guy near the front nodding his head to the beat of the music... no big deal. then i noticed a second guy a few rows back join in... a few more joined in from various locations... then a few more... and more... until there was a sea of guys synchronistically nodding their heads to the beat.
nothing is inherently funny about this, except from above it looked like a joke. like those two club guys from saturday night live skits who do the synchronized head bobbing. omg, it provided at least an hour of entertainment so that every time db and i would look down we'd exchange glances and crack up.
god bless those nodding gents and the horses they rode in on.
wait, there is more, it gets even better.
after the show we were walking back to take the bus and passed these two guys on the street. one looked homeless and the other looked like he could be a young (30-ish) professional just back from a red sox game, out and about in his baseball cap.
the homeless-looking fellow was standing with his back to the street, facing the baseball capped young professional and frantically saying something while the young pro was holding a crack pipe and trying to light it.
db and i passed, and once at a good distance looked at each other with quizical faces and asked "was that a crack pipe?"
we agreed it was. and we agreed that we had both, for our first times ever, witnessed folks smoking crack... and doing so in public, for everyone to see as they walked by nodding their heads to the beat.
