when your best friend comes to you and says "so-and-so told me xyz. why would they tell me xyz unless they were upset?" and then you apologize to so-and-so for possibly having upset them, does it make any sense at all for so-and-so to lose all sanity?
generally, my reaction to an apology is listening, telling my side (if i have one), and forgiving or not. i do not proceed to tell them i was never upset in the first place, inundate them with insults, exagerate faulty assumptions about them, and tell them how little i care about them and their opinion because they are full of themself.
...but thats just me.
