saint johnsbury, a town of 8000 people in roughly 5 square miles, is one of the largest towns in vermont.

vermont, believe it or not, has the second smallest population of any state in the 50 united states of america.

interesting vermontian laws still on the books:

3/4 of vermont is covered by forest - planted by the newly environmentally conscious human after realizing the devistation of eariler deforestation.

vermont's capitol, montpelier, is the smallest state capitol in the country with less than 9000 residents.

a statue of Ceres (goddess of grain and motherly love) sits atop the vibrant golden (real gold) dome of the capitol building.

WWII: several months before the united states declared war on germany, vermont declared war on germany.
